Money

Bolivian currency - the boliviano - is divided into 100 centavos.
Notes - Bs. 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10.
Coins - Bs. 5, 2 and 1, ctvs. 50, 20, 10.
-Try not to accept Bs. 200 notes as they're hard to break.
-There are ATMs all over La Paz and the main banks and good bureau de change are on the Calle Camacho.
-If you need a wire transfer the easiest is Western Union or Money Gram, someone deposits the money, emails you the code and secret question and you can collect the cash there and then.
-Dollars can be used for large purchases but you should always have bolivianos available.
-Because of numerous abductions of travellers or at least their cash cards don't be surprised if after you use your card once in an ATM machine you can't use it again. The bank is wondering why someone from the UK, US, etc. is using their card in far-away Bolivia. Call your bank and it will be reinstated.

DON'T change money on the street as they are very good at making it look like they're giving you 7 x Bs. 100 and 2 minutes down the street you'll realise you've only got Bs. 600.
