Ramiro Portugal and Tildy own this little spot of paradise where you can camp or stay in one of the comfortable rooms. Pumas have been spotted on the grounds where cows roam freely – check the swimming pool before diving in! You can take a 4 hour tour of the reserve and look out for capuchin monkeys, agoutis, squirrels, possums and big cats.  If you’re not staying there call ahead to let Tildy know to prepare her fabulous home-cooked, fresh meals and don’t forget to try her wonderful home-made ice cream and fruit-based shakes.

EL PARAISO
A one hour walk out of the village to take in spectacular views – ask Guillermo at the Hotel Huayrani for directions or company.

RÍO SOLACAMA
Go down the main road to the river for a dip in cool, clear waters and a spot of butterfly watching.

LAZA
Carry on from the bridge up left and follow the stages of the cross to a small square with a church in which you’ll find a beautiful gold altar and canopy. The locals make a pilgrimage to the statue of Jesus (Señor de la Exaltación) on 14 September.
