RON THE 'BANANA-BREAD MAN'

Ron the ‘Banana-Bread Man’ has been a familiar face around the town for a number of years and has now effectively become a tourist attraction himself. He can be found driving up and down the main stretch in his cart selling the most delicious banana bread imaginable and my favourite, the cinnamon slice. He also peddles ‘The Good Book’ and is free with his opinions on topical issues!

Calle Avaroa 08:00 until 09:00 and from 16:00 until about 17:30 in the evening.

JATAUBA JUNGLE LODGE

There are several swimming pools in Rurrenabaque, which is fortunate considering the heat and humidity.  The best place to go for a dip, however, is Jatauba Jungle Lodge which is a short trip across the River Beni. It is well worth taking the boat ride to this cluster of ecological cabins even if you are not staying at the hotel, because for a small price you can make full use of their two waterfall-filled natural swimming pools in beautiful jungle surroundings. Alternatively, just relax on a sun lounger next to the pool and watch small lizards dart up and down the salmon-coloured rocks.

20 Bs per boat from the riverfront by the ferry.

EL CHORRO

The beautiful waterfall and pool, El Chorro, is again is only accessible by boat. In addition to splashing about in this idyllic pool, take the opportunity to examine the ancient serpentine engraving opposite the falls. Locals believe that when the waterline reaches the serpent, the River Beni is un-navigable and unsafe.

Situated 1 Km up stream from Rurrenabaque.

MIRADOR

Mirador (lookout), is an excellent place to go to witness one of Rurrenabaque’s romantic jungle sunsets. Fearless explorers can jump onto one of the town’s motorbike taxis, for those not keen to risk making a trip on this bizarre form of public transport, it is a steep climb to Mirador that requires boundless energy. It is also worth going to Mirador during the day for incredible views of Lake Chalalán and the central mountain ranges of the national park.

Taxis cost around Bs 5 and are available from everywhere in the town centre.
