EL FUERTE
It has inspired many archaeologist to reveal the wildest theories.  Ranging from spaceship launching platform via rain and season measuring device to star calendar.  The truth is: No one knows why it was build, but we do know it was done by a tribe called Moyo coya which lived from around the year 500 to 1000 and then quietly disappeared, only leaving behind the giant sculptured rock now called "El Fuerte".
The RoadRunners

10km out of Samaipata, go back down the road to Santa Cruz for about 3.5km and turn right at the sign. Take water, a hat and sunscreen and allow about 2 hours to explore the Inca fortress of which little remains except for a large stone slab with zoomorphic carvings and a lot of graffiti! If you don't want to walk then negotiate in town for a taxi which should cost around Bs. 60 for up to 4 people.
